NYC Chef Bill Telepan Visits, Speaks with Golden Gate High School Culinary Students

Executive Chef of ‘Wellness in the Schools’ Initiative Brings Advice, Encouragement to Kids in the Pro Start Culinary Education Program

WHO:Chef Bill Telepan - Telepan is Executive Chef for the national Wellness In the Schools initiative; Executive Chef at Oceana restaurant in midtown Manhattan; and former Chef/Owner at Telepan and Telepan Local restaurants in New York City. He has been a celebrity chef at numerous Naples Winter Wine Festival events. Chef Telepan was in Naples for the December 6 special dinner at Sea Salt in Naples to benefit the Community Foundation of Collier County’s ‘Collier Comes Together Hurricane Relief Fund.’ The visit, during Naples Restaurant Week, also highlighted the growing culinary boom in Naples.

WHAT:Chef Telepan visits Golden Gate High School’s Pro Start Culinary Program students to provide insight and encouragement for their developing culinary careers, and convey the message about the need for students to learn more about and to eat real, healthy food. The Pro Start program is sponsored by the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association, (FRLA) and is active in six Collier County schools – Golden Gate High School, Gulf Coast High School, Immokalee Technical Center, Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology, Palmetto Ridge High School, and The Village School. There are 238 Pro Start schools statewide. ProStart is a nationwide, two-year program for high school students that develops the best and brightest talent into tomorrow’s industry leaders. From culinary techniques to management skills, ProStart’s industry-driven curriculum provides real-world educational opportunities and builds practical skills and a foundation that will last a lifetime.

8:30 – 8:45 a.m.Check in at Golden Gate High School office. Meet Lois Croft with FRLA. *Driver’s license required for check in and school entrance.

9:00 – 10 a.m.  Chef Telepan visits and speaks to Pro Start students in culinary instructor Maria Crisanti’s classroom.

WHY:  Chef Telepan seeks to inspire culinary students interested in pursuing a career in the restaurant/food industry, and bring awareness to the need for wellness and healthy eating in the school environment and at home.
